I am trying to get a morfe stable system and am looking at setting up wired backhaul with the orbi. What settings for the orbi do I need to set in the advanced setup section. I have updated to the latest 2. A recommended way is to use the Orbi Base routers web page to help setup satellites using a connected PC and web browser.

When connecting the satellites via wired back haul, connect 1 satellite first via wireless, then once you get the BLUE led on top of the satellite, connect the LAN cable between the satellite and Orbi router.

Save and apply. Once all is connected and running. What about a static ISP for router an satellites - regardless I will report back.

I use static IPs for all of my satellites -- and those are. My DHCP range starts at. You can use reserved IPs for satellites ON the router. Static isn't supported ON the satelites themselves.

Reserved IPs is recommended for satellites. Keeps them connected at a particular IP. I recommend each satelllite connect directly to the base router. You can connect them daisy chain wired I believe, however if the in between satellite happens to experienece problems, this may effect the down stream satellite. So I would avoid this possibilty by direct connect each satellite to the base router for independent operation.

So I set up backhaul do you reccomend static ip for the router and the satellites. If so what do I use for the ip. Do i set the ip prior to syncing the satellites. Lets use IP address reservation.

This would be set ON the router after the satellite s have been connected to the base and are up and running. You can use what the router assigns to the satellite after they are connected. When you updated FW, did you reset and setup again or just apply and continue wiht out a reset? Haven't seen anyone else with issues with the ISP modem since v Mostly configuration issues and wifi speeds.

Surprisingly, many users already have a powerful firewall available and don't even realize it. Most wireless internet routers contain a built-in, hardware-based firewall, and unless it's been activated, it's lying dormant.

We'll look at what exactly a firewall is; why you'd want to use one; and how to find, enable, and configure your wireless router's built-in firewall. A firewall is the digital equivalent of a traffic cop that polices your network boundaries. There are several different types of firewalls, both hardware and software-based. Firewalls help prevent internet-borne, port-based attacks. Firewalls can also stop an infected computer inside your network from attacking other computers by preventing malicious traffic from leaving your network.

All routers offer basic firewall protection, but many have more sophisticated firewall functionality. To make sure your router has a built-in firewall, open a browser window and log into your router's administrative console by typing in the router's IP address. Your router is likely to have what is known as a non-routable internal IP address, such as Below are some of the standard admin interface addresses used by some of the more common wireless router manufacturers.

Consult your specific router's manual for the correct address. After you log in to your router's administrative console, look for a configuration page labeled Security or Firewall.

This indicates that your router has a built-in firewall as one of its features. After you select Applyyour router will likely state that it is going to reboot in order to apply the settings. Configure your firewall by adding firewall rules and access control lists that meet your connectivity and security needs. When you have completed setting up your firewall the way you want it, test your firewall to ensure that it is doing what you're expecting it to.

Or even worse, no one knows the answer. Out of four techs sent to my house in two days, only one of them had ever done a gigabit install.

Phone support has been pretty much exhausted, and if today's install attempt goes sideways, I'll probably just end up downgrading to my previous service because, in actuality, it is faster with my wireless router. Does anyone know if you can use your own wireless router with Spectrum's GIG modem? Or is there anyone out there that confirm there's a compatibility issue with the modem and the Netgear Nighthawk series of wireless routers?

Go to Solution. When they replaced the modem with their new Spectrum GIG modem, I went through a factory reset to clear out any and all setting from my wireless router.

Then I went through the setup procedure, but no Internet connection was pushing through to the wireless router. I even went as far as trying to see if cloning my PC's MAC address would help trick it into connecting, but no dice.

It's nice to hear that I should be able to use my own wireless equipment with the Spectrum GIG install. That flies in the face of many of the people that I've talked to that work at Spectrum, despite a few that insist I haven't had a single tech so far attempt to reconfigure the wireless router, minus the phone support walking me through the setup and MAC workaround. Netgear support took me through some setting changes for about an hour, but the modem never seemed to deliver a IP address or any information to the wireless router, minus that one short time where it was only outputting 10mbps.

The modem and router we provide for the Gig works together? Only when you connect your own router is it not working?

Regards, Julia R. The GIG modem does not work when connected to a working verified this twenty minutes before on a mbps connection Nighthawk A The router displays the internet as "Not Connected".

A phone tech did get the modem to respond inside the router once, but that lasted for five minutes and only outputted 10mbps before a modem reboot knocked it back to "Not Connected".

How do I set up my Orbi router and satellite?

I get less range and slower speeds with the 1Gbps signal coming in than I did with the previous Spectrum modem at mbps and my Nighthawk A The modem doesn't appear to pass any data to the router - no IP address, nothing.

I've factory reset my router a ton of times too. I'm sorry I keep asking, but no one seems to be able to answer it. What model modem are you using? When you have our router connected what is the link light doing? When you have your router connected after powercycling first the modem then your router what do you see the Link light doing on the modem? You are powercycling the modem and router when using this device when changing the configuration of what is connected to the modem correct?

Sounds like the Wave2 router provided by Spectrum was incorrectly programmed if it did not deliver even half the rated download speed of when your computer is cabled directly into a modem LAN port.I bought this to replace the providers equipment. Every time service would go out, my security cameras and door bell would not reconnect. Also had dead spots in the house with no WiFi. Since installing the Orbi system I have much better connection speeds.

This is a great system. The Orbi was extremely easy to set up! We bought this product to help with internet connection in our basement. No glitching or issues with playing video games or streaming videos. I love being able to see who is connected to the internet and having the ability to turn it off from my phone. We used to rent from the cable company, but after buying the orbi I will never rent again.

I'm so happy with it that I have recommended it to all my friends within my first three days of using it. I love that I can access my Orbi remotely while on-the-go through its dedicated mobile application. Within the app. Using the satellite Orbi at theater end of the house has made all the difference in the world. No more losing the internet. Works great and looks great.

Eero, Spectrum, Arris and Netgear.

I would highly recommend this system if you are having weak signals in any other room of your house. Easy to set up and use, balanced connectivity, and speed for all of my families internet needs.

Also an app that allows you total control of your internet security and experience. Thank you Netgear for putting me in the driver's seat! I installed my system and was up and running in about minutes.

Freenas hardware requirements

Very easy to set up and use and works great in every room of our square foot home including full power in garage and backyard!! Love it, bought one for my son who just went off to college. It has made a tremendous difference in my home network. I had previously only been gunning at a fraction of my max internet speed on WiFi LAN connected was fine, but wireless was much slower. I no longer have streaming issues throughout the house. I would highly recommend. This system is much improvement over previous setup.

orbi setup with spectrum modem

I got 22 devices on my Network and everything are working great and I not losing wifi connecting in my whole house. Good modem and excellent Wifi coverage. I thought the initial price was high but found it well worth it. I'm not seeing an advantage over Nighthawk equipment.

I purchased at Walmart. Purchase experience was good. Setting it up has not been easy. The wizard on the app is good, but it got a little confusing when it came to call the ISP provider for activation. It looks like a new service, but you simply have to call, tell them that you have a new modem and give them the serial number and mac address. It took about an hour to do the initial setup and I have an IT background. That doesn't seem to be the case for most people. This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.

orbi setup with spectrum modem

Main hub is connected through Spectrum's Gateway device. I peak at mbps which is the fastest Spectrum offers if I'm in the same room as Orbi main hub or satellite. Slowest will be 20ish, but that's in the backyard and still pretty fast. But every once in awhile, my connection will be slow even when I'm in front of either Orbi device.

Or is it my Spectrum Gateway that needs some configuration? If your gateway's WiFi broadcast is still on and sitting near the Orbi, then the obvious first thing to do is turn off that gateway's WiFi. You really need to do that first.

If you setup Orbi the default way as a routerthen you have a double NAT situation going on both the gateway and the Orbi are doing routing functionswhich for most isn't that big of a deal, especially if everything in your house is connected to the Orbi's WiFi or Orbi Ethernet ports.

So I went on ahead and logged on my Gateway and turned off it's WiFi capabilities. And the device now has 2 of it's lights off to confirm. Is this or Open DNS a good move? As replacing my Technicolor Router, I just started their 1-year introductory service. I don't even see in the bill if and how much I'm getting chatge for leasing the device.

I have used it with a bunch of Netgear routers and others and several Mesh Wifi systems mostly Orbi and Linksys Velop and it has worked fine with them all. I am unfamilar with the Technicolor router. This might kick in after the introductory period. Most of the standard settings are fine, gives you less to troubleshoot later. You could also play around with the 2. I would think you would have to have your router and satellite way too darn close together to have to consider lowering the 5.
